Windows Systems Administrator-Houston, TX-Full Time Position

The Windows Systems Administrator in this position will build / maintain systems engineering support for Windows OS systems and be engaged in multiple projects through all life-cycle phases in accordance with established direction and standards. S/He carries out all work in accordance with systems engineering standards and program documentation requirements and is involved as required with other computing architectures such as security, virtualized server hosting environments, intranet and Web platforms.
Builds, develops, and maintains Windows based systems.
Ensures stable performance for the Windows environment; undertakes performance monitoring / analysis, identifies and resolves bottlenecks, resolves problems, and produces performance reports for management; provides business application users and management with a well-tuned Windows server environment.
Provides appropriate systems engineering hardware / software resources for business applications on Windows servers; performs capacity planning.
Provides business applications with resources for their tactical requirements.
Ensures Windows and all its related systems are maintained at the highest level of support; works in accordance with procedures and provides reliable and secure system for business applications.
Ensures client / server applications run successfully and are optimally tuned to maximize use of system resources while minimizing client impact; assists application developers in problem determination, system and application tuning, and consultation on projects; provides technical systems engineering assistance to the application development groups.
Ensures the client / server environment is updated with current, stable versions of software products; maintains currency with operating system and supports software; plans and implements major software upgrades; ensures change and security management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed; provides a current, well-managed operating environment for production processing and application development.
Carries out work in accordance with systems engineering standards and program documentation requirements.
Executes multiple project priorities and provides technical and administrative support as necessary; ensures appropriate management is apprised of operational status of projects.
Communicates critical information to management, users, and staff as necessary.
Provides business and technical consultation and support to users and other technical units.
Provides on-call support as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in related field with 5-7 years of experience
Strong working experience with Microsoft infrastructure components a must
Familiarity with the planning, design, engineering, implementation and operations of WAN, LAN, Wireless Network, Firewalls, MS Active Directory , MS Windows Servers / Desktops platforms, MS Exchange, MS Clusters and other related technologies such as VMware, F5 Big IP , switches and routers
Good track record of demonstrated Engineering and Architecture capabilities
Strong ability to work with and leverage business partners on engineering the best solutions
Microsoft certification preferred – MCSE on Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012
Expertise in managing a completely virtualized environment based on a combination of VMware 4 and 5 running on Dell Rack-mount and Blade-chassis servers utilizing HDS and DELL SAN storage
In-depth experience with the system design and administration in the following:
Windows 2000 / 2003 / 2008 / 2012 Server Operating Systems (including MS clustering technology)
Windows 2003 / 2008 / 2012 Active Directory
Exchange Server 2010 including disaster recovery
Experience with the system design and administration in the following: Sharepoint 2010, VMware ESX 4.x & 5.x, IIS 7.5, GPO administration, design and management.
SAN Storage Design / Administration experience preferred – DELL SAN Storage experience ideal
Proficiency with Internet and infrastructure protocols and standards including: TCP/IP, ICMP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, MAPI, DNS, WINS, CIFS, DHCP, LDAP, FTP, etc.
Firm understanding of Windows security including file system permissions, file sharing, event logging, performance monitoring and disk administration
Knowledge and understanding of internal and external disks, hardware connectivity, disk arrays, tape drives, hard-copy devices, hardware shutdown and boot-up procedures, and disk format configuration
Experience with the system design and administration in the following: Citrix Presentation Server, SQL 2008 / 2012 clustering technologies
