Our client, a leading company, is looking for a qualified Senior Network Specialist (IP Data Networks) to join their team on contract.
Purpose of Position:
- Provide Network support (LAN and WAN)- Research, plan and design client’s LAN and WAN environment- Oversee the implementation of the LAN and WAN projects and changes- Monitor capacity and performance of the LAN and WAN and recommend changes as necessary- Assess available technology and design network solutions for applications and projects requiring connectivity
- Provide support for WAN/LAN-related network problems.- Working with the Network Architect, conduct technology research in the areas of Local and Wide Area – Networking, architecture, protocols, hardware and software- Conduct evaluations and tests / pilots of the communications facilities and network products and services, in order to provide the optimal networking infrastructure for client- Act as a senior consultant to users and project teams in the analysis of business requirements and the selection of technical solutions for large or unique projects requiring network connectivity – Design and oversee implementation of LAN and WAN infrastructure using appropriate combination of hardware, software and facilities- Define requirements and guidelines, and oversee the process of maintaining all necessary network documentation (topology diagrams, addressing and device connectivity and configuration details, etc.)- Troubleshoot network and application issues- Plan and execute the upgrades of all network software and hardware, to maintain equipment currency- Maintain and test network contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures- Oversee the maintenance of necessary asset management and inventory control procedures and documentation for all networking products- Perform capacity planning and performance monitoring of all network facilities, in coordination with the Network Architect, to ensure the efficient and optimal use of all network resources- Manage network service providers; ensure that they conduct an ongoing analysis of the network availability and error statistics and schedule preventive maintenance, as required- Work closely with Information Security to ensure that the network deployments comply with all security standards
Position Requirements, Education and Experience:
- 6-8 years related work experience in computers and networking – University degree in Computer Science or Engineering – CCNP or CCIE certification – Expert knowledge of networking technology, both at the architecture and technical levels as related to LAN and WAN environments, Voice over IP, mainframes, server virtualization – Ability to work in a high pressure environment- Good communication and interpersonal skills, coaching and mentoring attitude- Extensive experience with switches and routers such as Cisco ISR, Cisco Nexus, Cisco Catalyst, – Wireless Controllers, HP Procurve (configuration, installation and troubleshooting to the component level). Experience with Cisco UCS is desirable – Extensive experience in corporate and Internet network connectivity using switching, routing, encryption, wireless technologies- Expert knowledge of firewalls (Cisco and Juniper), 802.1x, VPN, IDS- Experience using web based services with load balancing (Cisco and F5)- Experience with Cisco VOIP (Call Manager, Unity, Contact Center), and using performance control features such as QoS- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of network diagnostic tools for isolating and solving network problems (errors, excessive broadcasts, other performance problems, protocol-level failures, application-level failures) – Experience implementing and operating network monitoring and management products (Cisco Works, Cisco CSM, Juniper NSM, netflow, IP SLA, etc)- Knowledge of IBM mainframe networking products and concepts, such as DLSw+, SNA, SDLLC, 4702 and 3174 controllers, PU’s and LU’s, Enterprise Extender TN 3270 protocols and products, configuration, implementation and support of gateways, emulators, Cisco CIP, IPX/SPX
