To manage the specialist Energy Systems projects and deliver those in a safe and quality assured manner whilst growing the Energy Systems business with new and established clients on a national basis.
.Manage the Design, Construction, setting to work, monitoring, data analysis and results reporting as required all Energy Systems projects
.Ensure that accurate costing information is prepared so that pricing decisions can be made by Sales & Marketing personnel.
.Evaluate and appraise capital expenditure proposals in line with established policies.
.Interpret and analyse management information and highlight matters requiring the attention of the company’s senior management.
.Liaise with clients and stakeholders to develop and improve the Energy Systems business.
.Develop business case information with the Sales and Marketing team
.Select, motivate and control staff to ensure the Safe, timely and Quality Assured delivery of projects.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Energy Systems element of the Projects and Business Development business is being developed to meet Government and Customer requirements in meeting energy and carbon footprint targets on a national scale set initially by government. The business is a specialist area covering energy initiatives including but not limited to, Electric Vehicle Charging Points, Solar Photo-voltaic technology, Combined Heat and Power generation, Wind Power generation, fuel cell technology, Inverter Trials, regenerative breaking systems, Automatic Meter Reading and Smart Meter technology, LED Lighting systems, Scada and Smartgrid control systems and wireless Building Management systems. The business also provides appraisals to optimise energy use by clients.
The Senior Energy Projects Manager will develop and manage a team of project managers and their project delivery teams according to projects workload. Currently there are 4 key client areas which are:
.UKPN Low Carbon London
.Network Rail Energy Services
.TFL and London Underground Energy Initiatives
.BAA Energy Initiatives
The Senior Energy Project Manager’s function is organised as three sections:
.Business Development liaising with the Sales and Marketing team and identifying opportunities with existing clients
.Design Management with the Chief Engineer who provides design functions and data analysis as well as energy usage recommendations and reports.
.Project Delivery with stakeholders, sub-contractors and specialist construction teams
The job holder is responsible for ensuring that all work is completed safely and on time and as the business grows, will not normally become involved in specific projects except when problems arise beyond the scope of the Project Managers.
The job holder’s principal challenge derives from the current emphasis on energy efficiency improvements. There are numerous requests initially channelled through the Regulated Business for special cost analyses and information to support on-going energy studies through Low Carbon London, Network Rail, TfL and BAA and the capacity of existing team structures to provide these is very limited. The job holder becomes involved in this work personally to avoid disruption to the work schedules of the other UKPN Services Project Teams.
The job holder will attend the weekly progress management meeting chaired by the Manager Of Construction and also attends the monthly meeting run by the Head of Projects and Business Development.
The job requires a Senior Project Manager with experience in the management of Design, Installation and analysis of Energy Systems initiatives and the preparation of business case information. The job holder will be familiar the various technologies with the company’s products and its production processes.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE:
.Ability to identify realistic opportunities in the Energy Market
.Good presentation skills
.Ability to communicate effectively with client, stakeholders, UKPNS project teams and sub-contractors
.Effective team builder and leader able to set targets and carry out Performance reviews
.Knowledge of the various Energy systems and initiatives being developed within the Energy markets
.Knowledge of CDM requirements
.Degree or equivalent in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
.Prince2 or equivalent
.Resourceful and Experienced project manager with at least 2 years experience in the energy systems discipline
.Over 10 years experience in Building Services Design and Construction
.Over 2 years experience in the Rail Industry
.Working knowledge of Testing and Commissioning processes and handover requirements
