The research associate (or senior research associate) in this position in the Wireless @ Virginia Tech research group will work as part of a team and independently on research projects focused on the development and applications of software defined radios and cognitive radios. Duties and responsibilities for a Research Associate include: – Assist in project design, execution, and interpretation of research projects – Prepare professional presentations, professional reports, and publications – Engage in collaborative work with peers to achieve research objectives – Conduct independent research, under the supervision of the supervisor and report this research in appropriate technical forums, including technical conferences and reference journals – Assist supervisor in writing research monographs – Participate in wireless communication standardization efforts Duties and responsibilities for a Senior Research Associate including the above: – Supervise/train undergraduate and graduate students in the research group – Assist in writing research/educational proposals for funding

Minimum Qualifications

• MS in electrical engineering required for a Research Associate. An exception may be granted for individuals with a bachelors degree and significant relevant experience. – Earned PhD in electrical engineering required for a Senior Research Associate – Strong wireless communications background – A good publication record in peer reviewed conferences and journals – Ability to effectively communicate research ideas and results – Ability to work independently

• Demonstrated creativity, independence and high motivation – Good communication skills – Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with colleagues within a research group – Evidence of good project management and laboratory management skills – Evidence of developing publications based on individual research – Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel in the organization
