Project Manager
6-12 Months with potential contract extensions
Regina , SK

Our Telecom Industry clients Technology Division has a number of projects requiring the upgrade or replacement of existing technology infrastructure. Example projects include, but not limited to, the implementation of:

  • AAA functionality
  • Diameter Routing Agent solution
  • Value Added Service (VAS) Infrastructure (3rd party enablement server, picture messaging server, etc.)
  • Reconfiguration and upgrade of capacity for IP distribution switch architecture
  • Wireless device Equipment Identification Registry (EIR) Upgrades and functional improvements
  • Other projects of same or similar nature being considered and could be approved in the very near future

This Project Manager may be called on to manage other projects or additional projects depending on capacity and fit. At this time, we are expecting the Project Management engagement to be six (6) to 12 months. Engagement times are rough estimates only and may change. Contract renewal options may be available and will be determined at time of contract award and defined within any resulting Statement of Work. The Project Manager will work an 8 hour day.

Depending on the specific initiative the project will involve the following activities:

  • Detailed scoping, requirements gathering, design
  • Installing new hardware and software
  • Testing – Acceptance / End to end
  • Ensuring all current & new functionality and requirements are operational
  • Interoperability with various systems and coordination with teams accountable for each system
  • Implementation, migration, warranty activities
  • Training – service and technical as required

The successful Consultant will perform the role of Project Manager and will:

  • Be responsible for project deliverables. In doing so the Consultant will be responsible for managing the:

Schedule
Budget
Scope
Issues
Risks
Communication
Act as the single point of contact and escalation for the project.

  • Be responsible to ensure working team priorities are established and clear for all team members and vendors.
  • Ensure communications between project members, stakeholders and the Sponsor(s) is optimized for responsiveness, accuracy and full project team inclusion.

The successful Consultants activities may include, but not be limited to, leading or executing the following activities:

a) Authoring and leading the collaborative activities in creating a business case (or lower document) to authorized the funding expenditures of assigned projects.

b) Establishing or updating a project plan. The plan will:

  • Make use of the our Telecom Industry clients template for a project plan.
  • Include a schedule with milestones to allow short term objectives over the duration of the project. MS Project must be used unless the Consultant gains Our client s support for an alternative means to MS Project. The Consultant may be expected to create a Work Breakdown Structure to support planning of the project. The exercise activities may be reduced or waved if the consultant provides reason to do so. Our client must agree to this reduction of work.
  • Include a cost budget.

c) Monitoring schedule performance and reporting on progress.
d) Monitoring spending and ensuring adherence to budget.
e) Monitoring work activities included in the project scope to ensure they are aligned with the projects product scope.
f) Assisting our clients managers in obtaining the necessary resources and skill sets for the project.
g) Leading the creation of and/or updating of the our clients Architectural Building Permit.
h) Managing the Statements of Work requirements and work progress of the third party vendors that provide SME resourcing. This may include the creation of additional SOWs as required
by the project.

We are seeking the following education, skills and expertise in the successful candidate(s):

Education:

  • Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) is highly desired.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years experience as a Project Manager
  • Senior/Intermediate Project Manager with strong Leadership qualities
  • Proven strong Organization, Planning, Facilitation, Risk Analysis, Controlling, Negotiation, and Communication (verbal/written) skills required
  • Proven experience in vendor management
  • Proven experience in managing high level requirements gathering and development
  • Expertise in using MS Project with experience in resourcing loading/leveling, calendaring, etc. Candidate will be required to maintain the MS Project schedule in coordination with various workgroups. In addition the ability to track risks, issues and work towards resolution or escalation would be a definite requirement.
  • Maintaining a Project Library in our Telecom Client’s Lotus Notes/Sharepoint
  • Proven experience in managing complex technology projects
  • Proven experience in managing implementation of service delivery and enterprise software packages with integration to a companys applications and IT infrastructure
  • Experience in managing projects in the Telecommunications industry
  • Experience in managing IT projects with IT Service Management based processes
