this role:
To
provide expertise in the support, administration, enhancement and supervision
for the City of London Police technology fixed and mobile communication
networks including Wide and Local Area Network, Radio and Mobile services, CCTV
Network, Voice and Data Networks, operating systems and hardware, to provide an
efficient and cost-effective delivery service to users/customers/clients, which

exceeds customer expectations. Duties include:
To provide in depth technical expertise in the support, technical
administration, enhancement, and development, of the City of London Police
(COLP) LAN/WAN Voice, Data, CCTV and imaging networks and infrastructure,
ensuring the provision to customers of professional, comprehensive, responsive,
efficient and effective, high quality services that exceeds the requirements of
the relevant service level agreements.
To provide support, and guidance for the enhancement, and ongoing
development, of the City of London Police mobile data and voice, cellular and
Airwave services, ensuring the provision to customers of professional, comprehensive,
responsive, efficient and effective, high quality services that exceed the
requirements of the relevant service level agreements.
Responsible for day-to-day work scheduling and supervision of
networks staff, ensuring networks are fully supported; team and individual
plans and targets maintained against a background of varying staff commitments.
Acting as point of escalation for technical matters, providing guidance to less
experienced staff.
To liaise with the Helpdesk providing day to day support and
advice to users regarding problem management and issues within the networks,
ensuring technical faults are owned and monitored within the team, accountable
for ensuring service level agreements are met in close co-operation with the
other teams in the department.
To ensure that network infrastructure and hardware platforms are
monitored in respect of capacity, performance, optimisation, security and
exceptions, meeting current and expected needs, to ensure appropriate actions
are initiated and maintenance programmes scheduled and so that optimum
operating efficiencies are maintained.
Maintains technical knowledge and expertise and undertakes hands
on technical duties carrying out reprogramming as required, to the installed
base of switches, routers and hubs, LAN/WAN Voice, Data, CCTV and image network
communications systems. Supports initiatives in COLP to adopt service
standards, such as ITIL-based procedures.
To provide project management, produce work plans for the
implementation, acceptance testing and support service for all new network
related systems and for upgrade/enhancements to existing systems.
Provide a consultancy service, Chair meetings, and attend internal
user meetings to discuss scheduling and service issues. Maintain liaison and
communication with agencies and companies involved in the Criminal Justice IT
arena. Proactively put forward business improvement plans and cost projections
to bring about operating benefits for the operational efficiency of the Force.
To put forward proposals and plans, providing quality assurance
for others in the design of networks and standards act as the technical
representative in matters relating to network infrastructure, document
procedures and technical standards, to be aware of manufacturers recommendations
and industry good practice ensuring compliance to the IT Strategy.
Manage third party maintenance and support contracts with
suppliers, undertaking regular reviews and making changes to ensure best value
is obtained. Contributing and assisting the Networks Manager in the preparation
of budget bids for the networks team.

proven technical knowledge in information technology and also with respect
to network infrastructure, protocols and standards including, Ethernet,
LAN, WAN, frame relay, TCP/IP routing and network access control lists and
devices, ATM, T1, 802.11x Good
knowledge of MPLS, ADSL, Citrix and VPNs, Ethernet, design and
configuration of network topology and network products and
security zone configuration including firewalls and intrusion protection
technologies Good working knowledge of
Airwave services, wireless and cellular technologies such as GPRS, 3G and
mobile data Good demonstrable knowledge of
a wide range of network infrastructure related hardware and software, VoIP
and CCTV systems including programming, configuration, auditing and
monitoring Hands
on experience in HP, Cisco, Mitel or other manufacturer equipment and
operating systems and is able design and configure network equipment for
optimum efficiency Experienced
with network security zones, firewalls including anti-virus software,
intrusion detection systems Microsoft Office skills General experience in supporting Back Office infrastructure including Active
directory, Windows 2003 server, Citrix, or Active Directory 5
years address history with the last 3 years to be within UK. Please note
