Position
GoPro is seeking a top tier candidate for the Lead Mechanical Engineer – Camera role. This position will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical design solutions for the camera, mounts and all related accessories. This role will also conduct feasibility studies and coordinate validation testing on new and modified designs. In addition, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will work closely with internal and external partners to generate all necessary documentation and test plans to ensure that products meet specification. The ideal candidate should have the ability to use state-of-the-art CAD and analysis tools to create mechanical designs, primarily consisting of injection-molded plastic, stamped sheet-metal and die-cast component assemblies for high-volume mass production.
Responsibilities
Drive the mechanical architecture for new products
Responsible for the overall design, analysis, documentation and functional validation of mechanical components and assemblies
Conduct and participate in mechanical engineering evaluations and tests to validate the robustness and proper performance of new products
Act as the lead Mechanical Engineering interface to development groups (i.e. suppliers, partners, HW, etc.) to ensure the successful development and launch of new products
Ensure successful management and development of mechanical tooling and production part qualification (i.e. first-article inspections, manufacturing process capabilities (Cp/Cpk), (GR&R), material certifications, etc.)
Utilizes best-in-class tools to develop innovative mechanical solutions to highly complex problems
Audit mechanical suppliers and external partners in order advise on enablement plans when necessary
Protect company intellectual property by submitting patent applications
Ensure product features achieve cost, schedule, reliability, thermal, and regulatory/safety goals
Requirements
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, M.S. degree preferred
Experience in the development of consumer electronics products, preferably in handheld, mobile and ideally wireless devices
10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical or product design development
Advance knowledge and experience using Pro/Engineer solid modeling and assembly creation
Hands-on experience in using FEA tools such as ANSYS or equivalent
Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and performing statistical tolerance analysis
Experience with Asia ODM partners and manufacturing suppliers
Ability to travel to global manufacturing sites
Ability to work cross‐functionally and possess advanced interpersonal and communication skills
Results and deadline driven
Lead the mechanical development activities with minimal supervision on the most complex devices, their subsystems and components
Ability to multi‐task with various projects simultaneously in a timely manner
Start‐up company experience is a plus
Experience in sports products is a plus
Take great pride and ownership in designs produced
