Responsible for Designing/Testing/Implementing/Documenting and Supporting CN’s IP/MPLS Core Network. The candidate must clearly understand the business requirements of a 7/24 rail transport environment where safety and reliability are mission critical and propose solutions to that effect.
CN’s network offers great challenges for the telecom engineer:
spans over North America (Canada and United States).
is composed of all types of communications media (fibre/copper/wireless/cell/microwave/etc).
is currently changing its core to MPLS.
is preparing to modify its QoS settings to integrate VoIP, RoIP and video.
is composed of more than 3500 Cisco Routers/Switches, will be growing to 500 Alcatel routers, and are operating a handful of Juniper routers/firewalls.
CN is looking for a self-starter who can rapidly analyze situations, and decisively take justifiable actions. Some travel will be required.
Responsibilities:
Find optimal solutions to meet business objectives conforming to architectural directions.
Test and document the proposed designs.
Present and explain designs and solutions to multiple groups.
Perform differential cost analyses.
Provide support and assistance to other groups on any IP/MPLS related issue.

SkillSet:
3-5 years of experience on routing platforms (Certifications Alcatel SRA, Cisco CCNP and/or Juniper JNCIE, or equivalent experience is an asset).
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent. Telecommunications specialization preferred.
3-5 years of experience with IP networking and services (DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, Cisco portfolio, network monitoring tools, WIFI, VoIP, MPLS, etc)
Knowledge of MPLS, RSVP-TE, QoS, BGP, MP-BGP, EIGRP, ISIS, and redistribution between routing protocols on Cisco, JunOS and Alcatel platforms a very strong asset.
Experience and knowledge in design, operations and optimization of IP networks.
Experience in building business cases and providing estimates is an asset.
Good understanding of transport media (fiber, copper, wireless).
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
Bilingual (English, French).
