P/T Community I.T. Project Assistant
Grade: JNC Professional Point 1 equivalent

£7.50 per hour ( £14,430 pro rata )

Temporary Fixed Term (until 30th June 2014)

Accountable to:
Pride Media Association Ltd Board of Directors

12 hours per week

Holiday Entitlement:
5.6 weeks holiday per annum (supplemented by public / statutory bank holidays)

Special Conditions
Frequent travel requirement: re-imbursement of travel expenses in accordance with Pride Media Association Ltd’s re-imbursement rate.

Pride Media Association operates a no smoking policy.

Purpose of the contract:
**For the purpose of this contract “clients” are defined as people aged 50+ representing a variety of ethnic backgrounds and including individuals with particular social, and personal needs who attend or participate in project activities.
To support the delivery of a diverse programme of mobile I.T. and multi-media training courses and workshops to clients living in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.

To support project staff to provide one to one home support training sessions to clients unable to attend group activities.
To assist in administering accredited and non accredited I.T. and multi-media training programmes, workshops and learning materials.

To support clients with their learning of practical and transferable I.T. skills.
To support the personal, emotional and social wellbeing of clients

To assist project staff to motivate clients and encourage peer tutoring, volunteering as well as engagement in further training, employment or community activities.

Control of resources

Equipment / Materials: Responsible for the efficient and effective use of a variety of media technologies including a suite of laptops, wireless technology, Digital Cameras etc…

Responsible for assisting with the installation, and technical set up of networked laptops at training activities at venues across the borough of Rochdale.

Taking responsibility for personal health and safety and that of clients when using such equipment, and maintaining the secure storage of facilities after use.
Required Relationships
Working with clients, in supporting the delivery of accredited and informal training, workshops and related activities.

Linking with other service agencies relating to the aims of the project, and the needs of the clients.

Liaising with Carers, and Social Workers etc… relating to the personal welfare of clients.

Participating in the assessment and moderation of accredited programmes and where necessary linking with external moderation or accreditation board staff.

You will be required to assist in project monitoring and evaluation with Pride Media Association Ltd, and the organisations funders, which may involve attendance and participation in local and national meetings, audits and inspections.


The employee must:

Principle Duties

To support the development of a diverse accredited and non-accredited curriculum of I.T. and multi-media learning opportunities for clients.

To support the delivery of accredited and non-accredited learning I.T. and Multi-Media learning programmes at entry level and at levels 1 and 2.

To assist clients to achieve learning targets.

To assist staff delivering one to one home support learning activities to individual clients affected by issues which may prevent them from accessing learning in a traditional setting.

To develop partnerships with other agencies and social, educational, training and support services to enable the signposting of clients.

To participate in project promotion and recruitment activities; which may include, delivering taster workshops, managing display and exhibitions stands at local events, and meeting with partnership agencies.

To assist with monitoring and evaluation of learning to ensure a positive learning experience, retention and progression of learners.

To support clients to participate in session and project evaluations and encourage clients to play an active role in steering their own learning.

Support volunteers, and encourage clients to become volunteer peer tutors.

To assist with the administration of the project which will include tasks such as, but not limited to, keeping accurate records of attendance, client progression and development, retention, client evaluations and formal assessments of learning.

To assist with other creative methods of recording and recognising learner’s achievements, e.g. through photography or video, presentation events etc…

To ensure that the relevant Health and Safety procedures are implemented and monitored.

To inform the organisation about all aspects of their work and its development via the Board of Directors.

Secondary Duties

To positively publicise the work of the project and the organisation.

To, where necessary assist and support volunteers and other members of staff involved in the project.

To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as may be determined from time to time by the Company Directors or the Project Coordinator.

To attend and represent the organisation at any training, meetings or conferences as designated by the project co-ordinator.

To assist the organisation in identifying and securing future funding to ensure future sustainability of projects, staff posts and the organisation as a whole.


The post includes an opportunity to participate in a Stakeholder Pension Scheme with an employer’s contribution of 7%.


Payment will be made by cheque on completion of four weeks of work.

Youth and community work qualification at or equivalent to level 2 or higher.

Basic I.T. Qualification e.g. CLAIT, ECDL…

Understanding of the Internet, I.T. as a tool for personal and social development.

Understanding of issues affecting older people, and their barriers to learning.

Knowledge of the effects of prejudice and oppression including cultural, class and race related issues.

Understanding of peer education.

Knowledge of problems facing older people from deprived communities.

Post-holder should hold a clean driving licence.
